Tower Regeneration’s Tower Fund has been Shortlisted at the Love Where You Live Awards 2015

The Rhondda Cynon Taf ‘Love Where You Live’ Awards were designed in 2009 to recognise the inspiring activities that are helping to improve the local environment. The following information has been designed to help you write a thorough application.
If you, your school or local community have introduced positive changes that have really made a difference to the environment, then you should enter the awards. Your project needs to demonstrate a positive contribution to the environment, and that it has had a beneficial effect on your school or community.
Tower Fund - Best Environmental Partnership Initiative
The Tower Fund Project has been shortlisted for the Best Environmental Partnership Initiative. The Tower Fund was set up by Tower Colliery and Hargreaves Services Ltd. Hargreaves Services and Tower Colliery and is known as Tower Regeneration Ltd this is a joint venture between the two companies. Tower Regeneration Ltd is an opencast mining project which started in the spring of 2012. Over the life of the project, the company will donate 49 pence of every tonne of coal sold from the joint venture to the Tower Fund.
The Tower Fund is a pot of money available to the communities of Hirwaun, Penderyn, Rhigos and Penywaun in the Cynon Valley. The fund will support community projects - from social enterprises, ‘green’ energy schemes and training opportunities to youth projects. It will be put towards charitable projects within these communities.
The Tower Fund, to date it has already helped fund and support a total of 141 Projects.
The Tower Fund and Common Fund are proud to announce that grants totalling a staggering £1,093.052 over the five funds alongside working with match funding business opportunities. Projects already funded are varied and range from Allotment Societies, OAP groups to Sporting clubs and disability groups for just a few.
Tower Fund Volunteers - Community Environmental Champion
The Tower Fund Project is part of the Tower Regeneration Opencast Scheme that puts money back into the local communities within Rhondda Cynon Taf. The fund will support community projects - from social enterprises, ‘green’ energy schemes and training opportunities to youth projects. The Tower Fund Volunteer Programme at Tower which has proven to be invaluable to the people and the projects that have already come through the Tower Fund Volunteer Programme.
To date Tower Fund has 7 past volunteers, with 6 going on to secure full time paid work. We now have 5 new volunteers that have joined the team as Grants Assistants. The volunteers gain skills in administration, research, content management and people skills.
The Tower Fund Volunteers have worked endlessly over the last few years to obtain and support over 100 environmental projects within Rhondda Cynon Taf. To date 8 volunteers have been through the volunteer process at Tower Fund and more recently RCT Homes Grants Team, with five more currently volunteering.
